How Romance Fraud Works

Victims who pay are kept on the hook for as long as funds last, then often re-approached as part of a "recovery" scam.
Your Right To Reimbursement
Romance fraud is now firmly recognised as authorised push payment fraud. Under the PSR mandatory reimbursement scheme that came into force in October 2024, victims are entitled to refunds up to £85,000 per claim. The CRM Code provides similar protection for older losses.
